Celebrating a 25-year career, Mikhail Kaniskin has performed on numerous international stages alongside the world’s most renowned artists.
His accomplished repertoire, which includes title roles in classical repertoire (such as Albrecht and Prince Desiré) as well as an impressive list of works by distinguished choreographers of the 20th and 21st centuries, reflects the high standard and versatility he has brought to every performance.
Born in Moscow, Kaniskin trained at the Bolshoi Ballet School and the Ballettschule Stuttgart. He rose through the ranks of the Stuttgart Ballet to Principal dancer and joined Staatsballett Berlin in 2007. He has performed works by John Cranko, Reid Anderson, John Neumeier, George Balanchine, Jiří Kylián, William Forsythe, among many others, and has appeared as a guest in the United States, China, Japan, Italy, and Korea, as well as the Mariinsky Ballet, Rome State Opera Ballet, and Mexico’s National Dance Company. He has performed in numerous esteemed galas and been awarded many awards and prizes, including the “Soul of Dance” Prize for Classical Ballet in Moscow, 2019.
Kaniskin’s experience as a ballet master, coach, and director has grown over the last ten years. In 2012, he helped stage Yuri Burlaka’s and Vladimir Medvedev’s La Esmerelda for Compania Naçional de Danza Mexico in a co-production with Bolshoi Ballet and Staatsballett Berlin.
He helped to produce a dual-year exchange between Germany and Mexico in 2016, with support from Staatsballett Berlin. As Artistic Advisor of the for the Kremlin Gala “Stars of the 21st Century,” in 2017, he gathered some of ballet’s biggest names in a star-studded event. He also became director of the Sir Anton Dolin Foundation that year, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving Sir Anton Dolin’s creative heritage.
In February 2019, he was appointed Artistic Advisor and international promoter of Compania Naçional de Danza (Mexico), and DANZATLAN In One Click. He is a member of International Dance Council (CID) under UNESCO, the Youth American Grand Prix (YAGP) Europe, and is Executive Director of the Elisa Carrillo Cabrera Foundation A.C.
